Corporate & Military Group Volunteering

Your group can make an impact while enjoying a hands-on experience together! Norfolk Botanical Garden welcomes corporate, university, or military groups to help with a variety of garden projects – including mulching, weeding, planting, and clean-up! Help us care for our 175 acres while fostering teamwork and connection – together, we’ll grow something beautiful!

Group volunteer experiences can accommodate up to 10 individuals and take place on selected Wednesdays from 9:30-11:30. Tools and training are provided. Groups are welcome to explore the Gardens together after their volunteer shift.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR GROUP VOLUNTEERS

Do You Understand and Agree?
Volunteer Groups typically assist with work in our natural areas as part of our 'Green Team'. This is an outdoor volunteer experience that may include activities in the sun, heat, cold, or light rain. Tasks may include mulching, weeding, and cleaning gardens. We cannot guarantee the entire group will be working together on the same project.
Do You Understand and Agree?
Our staff plans these projects based on the amount of volunteer help they are expecting. Our volunteer program requires preregistration for every individual who is part of a volunteer group. A list of participant names will need to be provided to the Volunteer Services staff ahead of serve date. Additionally, we ask all members of volunteer groups to commit to working the full time slot that has been reserved. Please be mindful that volunteers will be within sight and earshot of guests at all times and are expected to behave with a high degree of profesionalism.
Do You Understand and Agree?
NBG Volunteer Services department reserves the right to cancel volunteer events due to inclement weather or other unforseen circumstances. Staff will attempt to provide as much advanced notice as possible, but cancellations may occur up to the morning of the event. Your group can coordinate with staff to reschedule if future dates are available. Please note, we have no indoor volunteer activities for groups.

Scheduling

Do You Understand and Agree?
Group volunteers are scheduled seasonally on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays. Each shift is 9:30AM to 11:30AM. Group volunteer slots open up every three months, and applications are reviewed on a first come, first served basis. We will reach out to you with available dates. If a date is not agreed upon, feel free to apply again in the future. Applications do not roll over into the next open booking season.
