As an individual volunteer at NBG, you can play a vital role in helping our Garden achieve its mission. We have a range of opportunities meant to match your interests and schedule to make sure you can find a place in our volunteer community to grow with us and make an impact.
Open Volunteer Opportunities
Now recruiting new Butterfly House Docent Volunteers for Summer 2026!
Docents help visitors explore the Butterfly House by sharing basic butterfly knowledge, encouraging curiosity, and fostering a deeper appreciation for these incredible pollinators. Applications are open through March, trainings take place in May and June, and the Butterfly House is open from mid-June through September. No prior experience is necessary and trainings are required.

Help visitors discover the beauty and importance of butterflies!

Be a part of the holiday magic and help make this huge event a success!

Weddings
Contribute to making someone’s special day perfect by assisting our weddings team.
Individual Volunteer Requirements
- Have a functional email address
- Submit an online volunteer application form
- Must attend a volunteer orientation
- Successfully complete a background check (provided by NBG)
- Be at least 18 years old (exceptions may be made for Summer Volunteer Program and Butterfly House Docent Program)
