Tag and track your butterfly!

Participants will tag a Monarch butterfly and later release it into the Garden after a brief training session. Three hundred or more Monarch butterflies will be tagged, recorded and released. Guests participating in the tagging receive a certificate. Free with Garden admission.

Approximately 50 butterflies tagged each hour 10am, 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 2pm and 3pm. Butterflies available on a first come basis. Groups may need to share a butterfly to experience this unique event.

Every year thousands of Monarch Butterflies leave the US and begin their migration to Mexico. Did you know that a single Monarch butterfly travels up to 100 miles a day – traveling close to 2,500 miles to their destination of Mexico. In Norfolk, the peak season for migration is September 18 through September 26.

The Butterfly Society volunteers will be on hand to answer additional questions.
