This year’s Garden 2.020 Fun Run is dedicated in memory of Bee McLeod, longtime supporter of the Garden, past board member, and past president of the Tidewater Striders.
Kick off the New Year in a fun, healthy way. Run through 2.020 miles of spectacular light displays in the most beautiful place in Coastal Virginia —Norfolk Botanical Garden!
Each year more than 600 runners and their families enjoy the Dominion Energy Garden of Lights annual light show extravaganza while starting off the New Year on the right foot—and the left! The Garden 2.020 Fun Run is a fundraising event that helps support Norfolk Botanical Garden programs. This event will go on rain or shine. Enjoy a Kids’ Dash, special entertainment, food, drinks, and more! This run is fun for the entire family.

When and what time is the Garden 2.020 Fun Run?
Wednesday, January 1, 2020–the Garden will open at 4pm. Please review the program schedule below. Please register no later than December 15 to receive your t-shirt.
How much does it cost to run?
The cost to participate in the Garden 2.020 Fun Run – Adults $50 & Children $10 3-10
Can I leave right after I run?
No. The main road will close to vehicular traffic promptly at 5:15 p.m. to allow for the start of the Run. For the safety of all participants, the road will not re-open until the last runner has completed the course, at approximately 6:15 p.m. No vehicles will be allowed to enter or leave the Garden during this time.
Am I guaranteed a T-shirt?
Yes—if you register by December 15. T-shirts must be picked up at check-in by 5:30 p.m. the night of the Run. Participants who register after December 15 may be eligible to receive a spare t-shirt on a first-come, first-served basis. Please visit the sign-in table inside the Rose Garden Hall lobby immediately following the Run to see if any t-shirts are available.
Do you offer discounts for members or groups?
There are no discounts available for this event.
I would like to bring family/friends with me to watch me run. Do they have to pay to get in even though they will not run?
Yes. Everyone entering the Garden, including spectators, must purchase a ticket. Spectators are invited to walk through the lights, starting from the designated walkers’ area, after all runners have started the Run. Spectators also may enjoy pizza and beer in Rose Garden Hall after the Run.
Is this a timed run and will I receive a prize?
No. This is not a timed run; it is a family fun run. Everyone is a winner! Runners that have registered by Dec. 15, 2019 are guaranteed a t-shirt.
Can my child run with me and the other adults?
Yes. If you wish for your child to officially run with you and receive a t-shirt and bib, they must hold an $50 ticket. However, there is a Kids’ Dash for children ages 3-10 that costs $10. Your child will not receive a t-shirt and bib but will receive a special gift. Even if your child participates in the Kids’ Dash he or she still may participate in the Run, but will not receive a t-shirt.
Are strollers and wheelchairs allowed?
Yes. We encourage everyone to participate! We ask only that runners with strollers and wheelchairs start the Run behind participants who do not have strollers or wheelchairs.
Can I purchase a ticket at the door on the day of the event?
Yes. However, this event typically sells out before the day of the event. Before you arrive, please check our website or call to see if tickets are still available.
If I purchase a ticket online and cannot make it to the event, will I receive a refund?
No. There are no refunds for this event. Please consider passing along your ticket to someone else if you are unable to attend.
Will the Run still take place if it is raining?
Yes. This event will take place rain or shine. However, in case of closure due to severe weather, the Garden 2.020 Fun Run will be rescheduled for January 2, 2020, 4pm-7pm. Please check our website before coming out on January 1st.
Are pets allowed?
No. Pets are not allowed at this event, except for ADA-designated service animals. If you would like to explore the lights with your dog, please return to the Garden Jan. 3&4 for Barks and Bulbs.
Do I have to pay for parking?
No. Parking is included with your ticket. Given the volume of vehicular traffic expected for the event, we ask for your patience while parking attendants direct you to available parking in our main lot.
