Garden Rules

In the interest of preserving a safe and family friendly atmosphere for our visitors and members, and a secure habitat for our plants and wildlife, please observe the following:

  • No pets are permitted. Properly Identified service animals accompanying visitors with disabilities are welcome. Click here for additional Service Dog information.
  • Cars are allowed only in designated areas.
  • Skating, skateboarding, rollerblading, kites, balloons, scooters, tricycles, children’s riding toys and frisbees are not permitted.
  • Bicycles are permitted only on Bike Nights: Monday, Wednesday and Thursday: April 1 – October 15, 4 – 7 p.m.
  • Visitors under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Parents or guardians are responsible for children at all times.
  • Please do not collect feathers, plants, flowers, fruit, vegetables, seeds, leaves, any animals or labels.
  • Do not feed birds signDo not feed or handle any animals, including turtles, ducks and geese  It can be harmful to their health. Feeding wildlife is also a violation of City of Norfolk Code Section 6.1-13. The enforcement of this Code is to provide safety for airline passengers at neighboring Norfolk International Airport by reducing the number of birds that could potentially fly into the flight path of passenger jets.
  • Trash containers are located throughout the Garden for your convenience.
  • Fishing is not allowed from the shore or inside the Garden.
  • Smoking is only permitted outside.
  • Visitors and members are required to wear shirts and shoes while on the premises.
