What are the days and hours of operation for LanternAsia?
March 9, 2018 – March 31, 2018:
Monday – Sunday: 9am to 9pm daily (last entry at 9pm, closes at 10pm)
April 1, 2018 – May 13, 2018
Monday-Thursday: 9am to 9pm (last entry at 9pm, closes at 10pm)
Friday, Sat, Sun: 9am to 10pm (last entry at 10pm, closes at 11pm)
I am a Garden Member, do I have to pay?
March 2018 (9am to 4pm Free to Garden Members). After 4pm admission is $15 adults, $5 children (3 to 17), children 2 & younger are Free.
April – May 13, 2018 (9am to 5pm Free to Garden Members). After 5pm admission is $15 adults, $5 children (3 to 17), children 2 & younger are Free.
How much are tickets for not yet Garden Members?
Tickets are $20 (not yet members); $10 (children 3 to 17); children 2 & younger are Free.
Do I have to purchase my ticket online?
No, if we are not sold out, you can purchase your tickets on the night of your visit. However, to guarantee entry into the exhibit, we recommend you purchase a date-specific ticket online. If you do not purchase a ticket in advance and it is a busy night, you may be turned away due to lack of parking availability. We will post on Facebook each evening.
Is there a limit to how many tickets I can purchase as a Garden Member?
Yes, the limit is 6 Member tickets per membership.
When are tickets available?
Online date-specific ticket sales are on sale now. Day-of online tickets sales end at 4pm each day. Day-of in-person ticket sales (if available) may be purchased the evening of your visit at the Visitor Center. Ticket availability is updated on our Facebook page nightly.
How do I get tickets?
When you purchase your date-specific tickets online, you will receive two emails. One is confirmation of your purchase. The second email will have a link to your e-ticket. You do not have to print out your e-ticket. We can scan your ticket right from your smartphone!
Will tram shuttles be available during LanternAsia?
This is a walking event however, tram shuttles will be available during the day from 10am to 4pm. Evening tram tours with very limited seating are available for individuals Monday – Wednesday. You must purchase your ticket in advance online. Click here to purchase your tickets. Advanced reservations are required for groups of 20 or more. Please call 441-5830 ext. 311.
Do you have discounts?
Yes, for Garden members. Advanced reservations for groups of twenty or more are available. Please visit our Group Tour Brochure for more information.
What if I can’t use my ticket?
LanternAsia is a rain-or-shine event. Tickets are not refundable. The Garden will reschedule tickets with 48 hours’ notice when possible.
Can I see LanternAsia both during the day and at night with one ticket purchase?
There is no re-entry into the Garden if you leave the property or exhibition. You might consider visiting LanternAsia before the sun sets to experience the lanterns during the day and stay to see them at night.
Can I touch the lanterns on display?
The lanterns are considered works of art. Please do not touch, sit or climb on the displays.
How long is the walk through LanternAsia?
The exhibition route is approximately one mile long. It is accessible for strollers, wheelchairs, and mobility assistance devices. A limited number of wheelchairs are available on a first come first served basis in our Visitor Center.
Where do I park for the LanternAsia?
Parking attendants will direct you to park in the main lot. Parking is free.
Can I visit the Garden without purchasing a separate admission ticket to the LanternAsia Exhibition?
No, LanternAsia is an extensive exhibition that encompasses a large portion of the Garden. Separate admission tickets to the Garden are not available.
Are complimentary Garden passes accepted during LanternAsia?
No, these passes are not valid during special events and exhibitions.
I am a member of a reciprocal garden through the American Horticultural Society. Do I receive the member discount?
No, only Norfolk Botanical Garden members receive the special evening discount.
9am to 4pm is free to Garden members and reciprocal AHS gardens. Everyone will be charged beginning 4pm.
I am a member of the South Hampton Roads Museum Forum (SHRMF). Do I receive a discount?
No, SHRMF reciprocal admission does not apply to daytime or evening admission to the Garden during LanternAsia.
Is food available? May I bring food from outside?
Yes. Marigold & Honey will provide a number of snack and beverage options. Outside food and beverages are not permitted.
Will the Garden Gift Shop be open during LanternAsia?
Yes. Our Gift Shop located in the Baker Hall Visitor Center will be open during the event. Check out our variety of garden-inspired merchandise for gardeners, nature lovers and more – perfect for gifting or getting!
Can I take photos? What about selfie-sticks?
Yes, we encourage you to take photos – use the hashtag #LanternAsia. Amateur photographers are always welcome. For commercial or portrait photographers, please see our photography policy page. While waiting for that perfect shot please do not block pathways or the view of others. Photographs and videos are not to be used for commercial purposes.
May I bring a pet to LanternAsia?
No. Norfolk Botanical Garden does not allow animals, except for ADA-designated service animals. No bikes or running please as this is a walking event only.
Am I allowed to smoke during LanternAsia?
Smoking is not permitted in the exhibition.
Can I walk into the Garden to see LanternAsia?
Due to the safety of our guests, we will not allow guests to walk into the Garden from the main entrance road after 5pm.
Are there restrooms available?
Yes, the Butterfly Garden restroom is on the route and our Visitor Center and Rose Garden Hall buildings are open nightly until 10pm.
