Have you always admired Asian brush painting and wondered “How’d they do that?” Let us show you how to make your brush dance across the page as you create a painting using traditional sumi-e tools. Instructor, Norene Spencer, will provide step-by-step, hands-on instruction in the ancient art of sumi-e. Learn the fundamental techniques employed in this fascinating fine art and explore some of the more contemporary techniques as well. Whether you’re an aspiring artist or an advanced painter looking to expand your creative talents you will find this course has something to offer and challenge artists of any skill level. The subjects for this class will be classic natural elements such as bamboo, grapes, sunflowers and fish. Initial supplies, including brushes, ink and ricepaper will be available for purchase in class, cost is approximately $25. (1 CEU credit hours)
