Traveling Players Ensemble performs at Norfolk Botanical Garden!
Rain or Shine! Event will take place at Renaissance Court unless there is inclement weather. At that time, the event will move indoors to Rose Garden Hall.
Traveling Players Ensemble is a summer theater camp for teens, whose mission is to bring great theater to the great outdoors. Performance will be presented by the camp’s most advanced program: the Traveling Troupe. This group rehearses a full-length Shakespearean play for five weeks, and then hits the road for a two-week tour throughout Virginia: camping, hiking and performing outside.
Don’t miss another performance at Norfolk Botanical Garden by the Traveling Players Ensemble – Cinderella Monday, August 5th 6-9pm in Renaissance Court. Click here to learn more.
Other stops on the tour include the Lime Kiln Theater (Lexington, VA), Douthat State Park (Millboro, VA), the Kimball Theater (Colonial Williamsburg, VA), and The Madeira School (McLean, VA).
Traveling Players Ensemble was founded in 2003 with the mission to enhance problem-solving skills, self-reliance, self-expression, and a heightened appreciation of both challenges and beauty by bringing great theater into the great outdoors. The program reflects the origins of theater, when troupes of actors roamed the ancient and medieval countryside, relying on the barest props and boldest imagination to convey their art. Traveling Players performers follow this tradition by touring by bus and backpack, performing Shakespeare outdoors in beautiful and historic places.
The camp was hailed as a “little-known summer gem…for the budding actor” by The Washington Post. Traveling Players was selected by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) as a Summer School in the Arts, one of only 25 in the nation to receive this honor. In 2005, Traveling Players performed Much Ado About Nothing at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage.
Traveling Players is supported in part by the Arts Council of Fairfax County, the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Traveling Players Ensemble is based at The Madeira School in McLean, VA. Throughout the school year, the company offers weekend classes in classical acting, improvisation, mask, and movement.
Running time 2 hours plus one 15-minute intermission. This event is included with regular Garden admission. Appropriate for children age 8 and up. For more information, visit www.travelingplayers.org or call 703-987-1712.
