PAWS to Read

Date and Time:
Date(s) - Sunday, May 18th, 2014
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Children can improve their reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a therapy dog. Bring your favorite book or read one of ours. Dogs provide rapt attention and children can read aloud without fear of criticism or interruption. Children 5 – 10 years old may sign up for reading sessions with therapy dogs in Storybook Forest. All therapy dogs and their handlers are certified by Therapy Dogs International or the Delta Society Pet Partners Program. During the reading session, the dog’s handler is always present along with a library staff member. Parents can sit in if they wish.  Free with Garden Admission.  (Signed permission slip required and can be completed at the event.)

The Fred Heutte Horticultural Library located in the Education Building is an excellent resource for information on all aspects of gardening. Only members and volunteers may check out books, but everyone is welcome to use the library for reference.

Pre-Registration Required.  Please call the Education Office (757)441-5830 x338 to register.

PAWS to Read will not meet in April 2014.
