Norfolk Botanical Garden welcomes guest speaker Arthur Joura for a Bonsai presentation and demonstration. Joura is the Bonsai Curator at the North Carolina Arboretum since 1992 and has extensively toured the eastern U.S. as a lecturer and teacher, and featured in numerous regional and national publications for his work with the Arboretum’s bonsai collection. In 1996, he organized the first Carolina Bonsai Expo, a show featuring the work of bonsai enthusiasts from organizations in a 6-state region. Now in its 19th year under Joura’s management, the Expo attracts over 4,500 visitors for the 2-day event and is recognized as the premier annual bonsai show of the Southeast.
The inspiration for his design work with the Arboretum’s collection (which now numbers well over 100 specimens) is not the bonsai depicted in books and magazines, but rather the example of nature as represented by the wild trees of the fields and forests that cloak the Blue Ridge Mountains.
This event is included with regular Garden admission.
NBG Members and Bonsai Members receive complimentary admission.
